Today was a very interesting day .. I woke up like usual and was about to get ready for work , like any employed person would do. I log on to see if i had any clients today at work , and i notice that my name is not on ANYTHING . I was taken off the schedule. Now , one might ask .. well .. why? .. what happened ? Well here is the back story ..
I found this job called the Blowdry Cafe .. it was a cute little blowout bar located in Columbus . I applied on a Saturday and got hired on a Wednesday . Wow right , quick hire ( masha'Allah) .. SO .. i started training and everything was going great.. so i thought .. then i finally got on the floor taking clients , which was mostly a wealthier clientele .. which is great! .. My first week , they were " setting me up" with their regular clients , and friends of the owners . Which i didn't notice until the feedback started to come to me .. Such as .. " Oh her hair was frizzy .. and when we do it .. its never frizzy" or " " Why did you use this shampoo on her? What was your thought process?" Mind you .. none of the 2 owners do hair AT ALL... So i just take
the blows as they are coming .. I'm thinking maybe this is some sort of initiation process .. whatever.. so after that grueling week .. i made it and all was good in the hood..
January came by , and my husband and i , got some horrible news , that our nephew had passed away in a fatal car crash in Saudi Arabia while he was coming back to Jordan . ( Allah yir7amo) . We found out on a Friday and my husband left that Sunday. So i was left alone for 3 weeks .. I was so depressed and grieving, and i had other horrible things happen while my husband was away .. So you can imagine the stress.. that then effected my work " attitude" . So instead of my "Bosses" asking me whats wrong and how can they help.. They write me up .. put me on a 30 day probation , because i wasn't smiling enough .. I didn't seem like i wanted to be there.. ( even though if i didn't want to be there i wouldn't be) , so i explained to them what happened.. then everything was sorta okay .. But i was thinking its only a matter of time before they fire me . Not even a week later a regular client of theirs , comes to get her hair done by me and claims that i burnt her hair to a crisp , which she expressed on a Google Review .. Instead of the " bosses" coming to ask me whats wrong .. they just fire me on the sly .. They don't try to hear me out or anything . It was as if they had planned it out ..Because they didn't like me .. Why you might ask.. well ... Let's take a look at why :
- Muslim
- Black
- Only 24 with 8 yrs experience
- Has done hair overseas
- Damn good stylist
- Over confident
- Speak 2 languages
- Has worked with all sorts of different cultural backgrounds
Now , to any Stylist/ Salon owner , you would want someone like that on your team .. But these " Bosses" didn't like that i don't fit the mold .. didn't like that i had all this under my belt .. didn't like that i wasn't what " they expected" they were threatened by me . Which is THEIR problem . But that's okay . GOD don't like ugly and Karma will get them back..
BUT , in the meantime , i am going to just go back to freelancing and this blog is just so i can share with you my talents and passions .. Like my mama always says " One monkey don't stop no show"
Stay tuned .
